Ahmedabad: Amit Shah, Union home and cooperation minister, urged people to adopt rooftop solar systems and dig percolation wells in every residential society. He spoke at an event in Ranip at the foundation stone laying and inaugural ceremony of several development projects worth Rs 651 crore.

“I will hold meetings with chairpersons of various residential societies of my constituency (parts of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar fall within the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency). I urge people to adopt the schemes of rooftop solar systems and dig percolation wells,” Shah said. He mentioned that water conservation and adopting clean sources of electricity are the need of the hour.

“All you need is to give my office a consent letter. The civic body and elected representatives will bear almost all the cost of digging percolation wells. Each society will have to pay a nominal amount only. But I insist that all residential societies must adopt this scheme so that our groundwater can be recharged,” Shah said.

Stating that PM Modi has also announced the rooftop solar scheme keeping in mind energy requirements for the next 25 years, Shah said that all households in his constituency should install rooftop solar systems, as their electricity costs will come down drastically.
