IEX records 11,132 MU electricity trade in December 2024, up 29% YoY, ET EnergyWorld


New Delhi: Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) achieved a record monthly electricity traded volume of 11,132 million units (MU) in December 2024, marking a 29% year-on-year (YoY) increase. The exchange also traded 16.62 lakh renewable energy certificates (RECs) during the month, up 58% from December 2023.

For the nine months of FY25, IEX’s electricity traded volume reached 88,981 MU, a 19% YoY increase. In Q3FY25, the traded volume stood at 30,464 MU, growing 16% YoY.

The Day-Ahead Market (DAM) accounted for 6,674 MU in December 2024, a 39% YoY growth, while the Real-Time Electricity Market (RTM) recorded 3,180 MU, up 32% YoY. The Green Market, encompassing Green Day-Ahead (G-DAM) and Green Term-Ahead Market (G-TAM), achieved 781 MU in December 2024, reflecting a 236% YoY increase.

Market Clearing Prices in the DAM averaged ₹3.89/unit in December 2024, a 14% YoY decrease, with Q3FY25 prices averaging ₹3.71/unit, down 26% YoY due to ample supply. REC trading volumes for Q3FY25 reached 26.52 lakh, up 31% YoY, with clearing prices ranging between ₹260/REC and ₹316/REC.

The next REC trading sessions are scheduled for January 8 and January 29, 2025.
