Chennai: Blue Planet Environmental Solutions has reclaimed over 96 acres of land at Perungudi, India’s largest landfill, by processing more than 1.73 million cubic meters of municipal solid waste (MSW), the company said. This achievement is part of Blue Planet’s broader effort to clear 13 million tonnes of waste and reclaim 650 acres of land across India.

The success of the Perungudi project reflects our commitment to addressing environmental concerns through cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices,” said Prashant Singh, Co-Founder and CEO, Blue Planet, during a site visit at the Perungudi landfill.
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) awarded the tender for the Perungudi project to Zigma Global Environ Solutions, a portfolio company of Blue Planet, in February 2021. Chennai generates about 5,500 metric tonnes of solid waste daily, which is managed at the Perungudi and Kodungaiyur dumpsites. The Perungudi project aimed to reclaim 225 acres of land by mining 30.63 lakh cubic meters of MSW.
Following the Perungudi success, Blue Planet has secured 50% of the contract to bio-mine the Kodungaiyur dumpyard, which spans 352 acres and contains approximately 74 lakh cubic meters of waste. The Kodungaiyur project is expected to address significant environmental and public health challenges.
The site visit coincided with the AVPN South Asia Summit 2024, where Blue Planet participated as an anchor partner. Speaking at the summit, Singh emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in creating sustainable solutions. “Building resilient cities requires collective effort. By working at the grassroots level and collaborating with stakeholders, we can reimagine urban futures and create thriving communities for generations to come,” he said.
The Perungudi and Kodungaiyur projects are part of Blue Planet’s mission to lead the transition toward a circular economy, showcasing the potential of modern waste management technology in India.
