New Delhi: TP Solar Ltd, the solar manufacturing arm of Tata Power and a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, inaugurated a 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. This facility is India’s largest single-location solar manufacturing plant. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin, formally inaugurated the plant in the presence of Thiru T.R.B. Rajaa, Minister for Industries & Commerce, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD, Tata Power, and Deepesh Nanda, CEO and MD, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited.
The facility is equipped with advanced TOPCon and Mono PERC technologies, designed to meet the growing demand for renewable energy in India. It will produce high-efficiency solar cells and modules, contributing to the country’s clean energy targets. The solar cells and modules manufactured at this facility will initially cater to Tata Power’s ongoing projects, with plans to explore opportunities for wider market distribution.

Not only does it showcase innovative technology, but it also plays a crucial role in community development by creating job opportunities, with 80% of the workforce comprising women. We look forward to continuing our contribution to Tamil Nadu’s economic growth and India’s clean energy transition.”The new facility is expected to support local employment and promote green entrepreneurship, with 80 per cent of the workforce comprising women. In addition to the Tirunelveli plant, Tata Power also operates a solar manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka, established in 1992, with a production capacity of 682 MW for solar modules and 530 MW for solar cells.
Tata Power aims to strengthen its renewable energy portfolio through such initiatives, supporting India’s journey towards energy security and a net-zero carbon future.
