New Delhi: India’s fuel consumption recorded an increase in January 2025, with petrol demand rising by 6.3% year-on-year (YoY) to 3,296 TMT, while diesel consumption grew by 4.15% YoY to 7,732 TMT, according to the PPAC Flash Report for January 2025.
Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) consumption increased by 8.88% YoY to 780 TMT, reflecting an increase in air travel. LPG consumption rose by 4.97% YoY to 2,960 TMT.
For the period April 2024 to January 2025, petrol consumption reached 33,299 TMT, up 7.9% from 30,873 TMT recorded in the same period last year. Diesel demand stood at 75,982 TMT, marking a 2.4% increase from 74,176 TMT in FY24. ATF consumption for the same period increased by 9.7% to 7,444 TMT, up from 6,784 TMT in the previous fiscal.
LPG consumption for April to January stood at 26,981 TMT, reflecting a 6.4% increase from 25,355 TMT in the previous fiscal.
The report stated, “Total petroleum product consumption in January 2025 stood at 19,439 TMT, an increase of 5.1% over January 2024.” It added, “For the period April 2024 to January 2025, total petroleum product consumption stood at 191,127 TMT, reflecting a 4.7% increase over the same period last year.”
Consumption of Naphtha rose by 12.8% YoY in January 2025 to 1,241 TMT, while Kerosene demand declined by 15.4% YoY to 83 TMT. Bitumen consumption increased by 11.2% YoY to 791 TMT, and Lubricants and Greases consumption stood at 378 TMT, reflecting a 4.7% YoY growth.
The report stated that petroleum coke consumption in January 2025 stood at 1,901 TMT, reflecting a 10.8% increase over the previous year, while fuel oil demand rose by 6.3% YoY to 643 TMT.
