New Delhi: Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) vertical has won new high-voltage transmission orders across the Middle East and Africa, including a major project for a National System Control Centre in Kenya. These contracts aim to expand and strengthen electricity grids, integrating diverse generation sources and enhancing grid stability amid increased renewable energy sources and high-voltage regional connections.
In Kenya, L&T, working with an original equipment manufacturer, will build a new transmission hub, serving as the country’s central facility to manage power flows and ensure reliable grid operations. “The control centre will manage power flow by integrating diverse generation sources and by dispatching power based on merit order,” the company said in a statement. The project will include a backup energy management system at a separate location to enhance grid resilience.
In the Middle East, L&T’s new orders encompass the construction of high-voltage transmission lines in Saudi Arabia on a turnkey basis, along with additional Gas Insulated Substations in Qatar to support ongoing power expansion efforts. These projects align with L&T’s expertise in digital energy solutions and high-voltage infrastructure.
Larsen & Toubro, a USD 27 billion multinational with operations in over 50 countries, has consistently delivered on large-scale infrastructure projects with a focus on quality and customer satisfaction. The company has classified these recent contracts under its “significant” project category, highlighting their value in the range of ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 crore.
