New Delhi: Germany-based proweps envirotec GmbH, a subsidiary of biofuels company GPS Renewables, has completed an extension of its anaerobic digestion plant in Västerås, Sweden. Operational for 15 years, the bioCNG plant can now process up to 48,000 tonnes of food waste annually. The extension, which includes the installation of a liquid organic waste reception system, enhances the plant’s capability to handle various types of organic waste.
Proweps designed, supplied, and integrated the new waste reception system, which includes tanks, stirrers, valves, and instrumentation, into the existing infrastructure. The plant is equipped to process a wide range of waste streams, including food waste, packaged supermarket waste, and grease trap removal sludge, enabling the production of both bioCNG and bioLNG, alongside high-grade fertilizer for agricultural use.
Dieter Korz, Managing Partner, proweps said, “We are excited to continue our longtime partnership with VafabMiljo and provide additional enhancements to the existing project. Over the last several years, we have created a significant impact with our existing project and we look forward to continuing the momentum.”
The Västerås plant operates continuously with minimal personnel requirements and is known for its substrate flexibility and high-quality biogas output.
In addition to this project, proweps is actively involved in several new engineering projects in Poland, Kuwait, Israel, and India. These projects focus on industrial-scale anaerobic digestion plants, processing agricultural, industrial, and municipal organic waste. Proweps also supports GPS Renewables in the design and engineering of compressed biogas plants in India, contributing to the development of biofuels infrastructure globally.
