New Delhi: India’s largest producer of sustainable critical minerals Lohum Cleantech Ltd has entered into a joint venture with US-based ReElement Technologies Corporation and American Metals LLC to establish the United States’ first fully integrated battery recycling and critical material production facility. The partnership aims to build a 15.5 GWh facility in Indiana with an initial investment of $30 million, which will create 250 green jobs.
The joint venture India’s largest producer of sustainable critical minerals Lohum Cleantech Ltd initially support the supply of critical materials for over 315,000 electric vehicles annually, with future growth tied to feedstock availability. The facility will manage the complete battery lifecycle, including battery cell testing, recycling, mineral refining, and production of battery-grade materials with a purity of more than 99.5%.
The initial location will be the Marion Advanced Technology Center in Indiana, with plans for expansion. “As Lohum expands its presence in North America, we welcome this opportunity to partner with ReElement and American Metals,” said Rajat Verma, CEO, Lohum Cleantech. The partnership aims to strengthen U.S. supply chains by leveraging Lohum’s expertise in battery material recycling.
Mark Jensen, Chairman, ReElement and American Metals, said, “We are pleased that ReElement and Lohum are partnering in a joint venture to leverage both companies’ vast experience in recycling lithium-ion batteries.”
The facility is expected to significantly reduce capital expenditure and environmental impact in the separation and purification of battery materials. It will play a key role in building a domestic ecosystem for recycled high-purity lithium in North America.
