New Delhi: The Indian Auto LPG Coalition (IAC) has called on Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav to endorse Auto LPG as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel. In a letter, IAC Director General Suyash Gupta emphasized the significant environmental and economic benefits of adopting Auto LPG over traditional automotive fuels.
Gupta highlighted that Auto LPG, a clean-burning fuel, reduces emissions of particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxide, which improves air quality and reduces the carbon footprint. “Auto LPG offers significant environmental benefits by emitting 20% less CO2 compared to petrol and 60% less than diesel. It produces almost no particulate matter, a major cause of air pollution, and has significantly lower nitrogen oxide emissions,” he said.
The IAC has been a consistent advocate for cleaner fuel alternatives, engaging with policymakers to integrate Auto LPG into India’s sustainable development framework. Gupta’s appeal stresses the need for supportive fiscal policies to recognize Auto LPG’s role in achieving environmental and sustainable development goals. He added, “Huge success of the Ujjwala Yojana has improved LPG infrastructure availability across the country, ensuring a stable supply chain for Auto LPG.”
The IAC is urging for more visible inclusion of Auto LPG in the national policy framework alongside EVs and CNG. The coalition proposes tax incentives for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to produce Auto LPG variants and a reduction in the GST rate on Auto LPG from 18% to 5% to align it with the GST rate on domestic LPG.
